Sue Former Mayor O’Brien Over Cancelling Seimen’s Deal

As published in the Ottawa Sun: September 8, 2011

Some people are proposing that the City of Ottawa, with its deep pockets; attempt to recover legal costs from or even sue the so-called Friends of Landsdowne. Would these same people be willing to sue former Mayor Larry o’Brien for cancelling the Seimen’s light rail contract while he was mayor? That would be a more profitable venture and Larry has deep pockets, too. His action cost us tens of millions and seemed very foolish to me. Further, it demonstrated a certain high-handed arrogance with public funds.

For that matter, what about Jean Chretien’s infamous and horribly expensive cancellation of the Cormorant helicopter deal? These men owe us all a detailed explanation and financial reparations. Losing an election is not a strong enough consequence for such fiscal fumbling.
