The prestige of scandal-riven British royalty has steadily-eroded over the decades but the monarchy could help Canada deal with Donald Trump’s bully tactics.

Unlike Charles the third, Donald Trump; in spite of his wealth and political power, is merely a wannabe king who desperately needs to be liked, admired and even feared. This dynamic provides a Machiavellian opportunity to Canadians of wit and courage who understand the power of perception in politics.

Canada can use Trump’s character against him by inviting Charles to Canada where the king would meet with the U.S. leader. Given Trump’s ambition and veneration of power, Charles might succeed in soothing the president’s insecurities were he to treat Trump as a peer, however galling that might be to the king’s dignity.

By doing this, Charles could help protect Canada and partly restore his family’s tattered reputation.
