Hamas - Israel’s “Useful” Enemy

Many Canadians may be unaware that the Israeli state has long-supported the existence of Hamas through Qatari intermediaries who provide shelter and funding. This cynical hypocrisy has allowed the survival of Hamas and given Israel an excuse to regularly attack Gaza with disproportionate force, killing mostly civilians in their attempt to "destroy" Hamas.

Hamas are brutal by any definition but their Israel-assisted creation as the anti-Fatah party is poorly-understood by people who seem to think Hamas came from nowhere to torment Israel.

Since Israel has imprisoned the most popular Palestinian leaders, the people are left with either Hamas in Gaza or the Israeli proxies who run the Palestinian Authority for their own benefit, much like the Vichy French administration in World War Two.

Any people, including Canadians, would resist violently after decades of exile and military domination. Somehow, Palestinians are deprived of their legal right to resistance and sovereignty since their actions are defined, in spite of the Geneva Convention, as terrorism by Israel and its supporters.

Conversely, Israel state violence is portrayed as self-defence, no matter its severity or casual cruelty in the intentional targeting of Palestinian, Yemeni and Lebanese civilians under the Dahiya Doctrine of disproportionate force designed to crush peoples’ morale.

Canada and the EU’s Palestinian State rhetoric must be supported by sanctions against Israel for its ongoing defiance of International Law. Unfortunately, only the U.S. government has the power to halt the march of Israel's military quest to dominate the Middle East through consistent territorial aggression. They must act soon to prevent further death and destruction in Palestine, Arab states and Israel itself.
