Wounded Veterans Deserve Better

As published in Rabble.ca: Nov.12, 2021

Every November, Canadians honor those who have served in the military; especially the dead and wounded. Unfortunately, war remains a permanent feature of human existence and has become vital to neoliberalism and the interests of global capital. Canada’s long military experience in Afghanistan is a good example of how a middle power gets drawn into unwinnable conflicts at the behest of the mighty.

As published in the Hill Times: Nov. 11, 2021

The persuasive power of wealth and status remain evident in recent coverage of Brian Mulroney’s advice to current Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Opposition Leader Erin O’Toole. The mainstream press ignores Mulroney’s past record as they publicise his current pronouncements.

Palestinian Autonomy Undermined by Canada

Palestinian Autonomy Undermined by Canada

As published in the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs (WRMEA): August/September 2021 Vol. XL #5

Nizar Binat’s June 24 death at the hands of Palestinian Authority (PA) security forces is a harsh reminder of the PA’s attitude toward Palestinians who dare to criticize their authoritarian policies and security cooperation with Israel. Binat had been a candidate in the PA’s overdue parliamentary elections recently cancelled by PA leader Mahmoud Abbas over "uncertainty if Israel would allow the election to proceed in Jerusalem."

David Kilgour’s Iranian History

David Kilgour’s Iranian History

As published in the Hill Times: July 14, 2021

Former Canadian parliamentarian David Kilgour recently criticized new Iranian president Raisi’s ugly record of torture, killing and anti-dissident violence. However, Kilgour’s claim that Raisi’s election will worsen Middle East “instability” is less reliable, since that claim is based on an unspoken assumption: only nations who serve Western interests may be considered moderate and stable. That includes cooperative dictatorships.

HAMAS’ ROCKETS VS. THE “GOLIATH” OF ISRAEL (NO CONTEST)

What is worse, open hostility to an established state or preventing the founding of another? According to the mainstream media, Hamas’ hostility to Israel is a graver matter than Binyamin Netanyahu’s refusal to even consider the idea of “another” Palestinian state east of the Jordan River. Netanyahu and many senior Israelis consider Jordan a Palestinian state.

Minimum Wage Solution: Shift Corporate Subsidies to Small Business

Without Irony, Israel Condemns Hezbollah’s UN Violations

Washington Report on Middle East Affairs: April-March 2021

Without Irony, Israel Condemns Hezbollah’s UN Violations

Israeli officials are claiming that Hezbollah’s violation of a 2006 United Nations resolution somehow justifies the intimidating presence of low-altitude Israel war planes in Lebanese air space. The 2006 UN Resolution forbade Hezbollah “…from building up its military capabilities and operating near the Israeli border…” UN Resolutions notwithstanding; foreign aircraft that violate Israeli air space have a low survival rate.
