Fictional Gaza “Ceasefire”

Fictional Gaza “Ceasefire”

Inverness Oran: February 10, 2026

Mainstream media editors seem content with the fictional Gaza ceasefire deal connected to Trump’s cynical Board of Peace scheme. They must know that a genuine ceasefire means the total but temporary cessation of military violence.

Israeli ceasefire agreements have traditionally required that others (like Hamas) cease firing completely while the Israeli military merely reduces its use of heavy munitions while continuing with lighter weapons. By comparison, Hamas military activities have been minor and sporadic, targeting Israeli military vehicles and soldiers inside Gaza.

Hundreds of Gaza Palestinians have been killed and maimed since the October 10th start of this dubious process and Israel’s aid restrictions are exacerbating the suffering by increasing hunger and medical emergencies among Gaza’s desperate residents. Notably, Gaza now boasts the world’s largest population of child amputees.

For the sake of clarity, we need a more accurate word to describe Israeli military actions in Gaza. Perhaps we should ask the civilians on the receiving end of the ceasefire’s bullets and bombs if the violence has ceased? In reality, the ceasefire only exists in the imagination of the Israeli state and its enablers.
