Israel’s lack of Borders

Israel’s lack of Borders

Washington Report on Middle East Affairs: January/February 2026

Certain mainstream editors recently objected to Palestinian statehood because Gaza’s borders are “undefined.” Conversely, they offered no critique of Israel’s status as the only nation without permanent borders due to its aggressive territorial expansion.

The Greater (Eretz) Israel plan has been quietly proceeding for decades, and Gaza has long been coveted by Israeli leaders who enjoy the impunity of U.S. backing. Too many people remain willing to pretend that the so-called “peace process” was something other than Israel’s cynical delaying tactic designed to gradually annex all valuable Palestinian territory.

While Hamas is undeniably brutal and repressive, what do we expect in a totally blockaded enclave long subjected to massive Israeli air, sea and ground attacks?

Palestinian negotiators always face the combined force of the U.S. and Israel who, together, reserve the right to define peace. When Palestinians seek redress at international forums like the United Nations, they are accused of “internationalizing” their struggle, as if seeking help is somehow wrong when your opponents are vastly stronger.

This is like one’s legal opponent demanding that you defend yourself in court while they retain expert lawyers.

Fortunately, Palestinian fortunes may be improving, as much of the world refuses to accept Israeli excuses for its ongoing slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.
