Canada Complicit in Illegal Bombing of Iran

Hill Times: 15 April 2026

Canada’s political and material support for the U.S./Israeli bombing of Iran renders it complicit in waging aggressive war, the ultimate crime under international law.

While Prime Minister Carney said Canada “…will never participate in…” the bombing, he nevertheless supports it with “regret” while blandly acknowledging that the attacks violate international law. Carney also supports the specious U.S./Israeli argument that Iran poses a nuclear threat.

Past events suggest the likelihood that Canadian soldiers may be assisting the U.S./Israeli bombing of Iran. Canada currently has over 200 military members serving in the Middle East in various roles, often linked to U.S. activities, thus rendering them vulnerable to attack.

Back in 2014, Canada deployed at least 26 soldiers to Iraq as advisers to the U.S. military. According to a 2015 report by the Centre for International Policy Studies, “…Canadian [ Special Operations] troops in Iraq are spending [spent] approximately 20 percent of their effort close to, or right at, the front lines…”

The Carney government has refused specifics about the activities of the 18 Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) personnel…attached to the U.S. Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain and at the Combined Aerospace Operations Center (CAOC) at Al Udeid airbase in Qatar.”

However, former Canadian General Denis Thompson stated, “… it's highly likely some Canadian military members, on exchange with the United States, would have been involved at some level in the planning and co-ordination of air strikes on Iran — something the Department of National Defence disputes.”

The Carney government recently confirmed what La Presse had reported on March 12 that “…the Canadian section at Ali Al-salem Air Base appeared to be damaged…” by a March 1 attack on Canada’s operational support hub at this U.S. Air Force base in Kuwait.

Since Carney has little influence over the Americans and Israelis, he will likely continue to offer vague platitudes rather than clearly acknowledging that Iran is the victim of illegal aggression.
